Houghton Bay on the right. If you arrive in Wellington by plane and the wind is offshore, you approach from the South allowing you to check if there is any swell. The Island has breaks on both sides, but in two years of living in a house that overlooks it, I never saw anyone take on the left. Too heavy for most I'd have thought.
