A small day with two boats and a handful of surfers out at Gourao. Much too small at the shore breaks. I took this picture to show the 1km wide gap in the fringing reef around New Caledonia that lets swell into the breaks around the Nera rivermouth. Sediment from this river has stopped coral growing here. It is the only place in the enormous New Caledonia fringing lagoon where swell can reach Grand Terre coastline.
