Dolphin Bay in The Wairarapa is an exposed beach and reef break that has fairly consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. Works best in offshore winds from the northwest and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Handles onshore winds better than most spots Windswells and groundswells in equal measure and the optimum swell angle is from the southeast. The beach break offers mainly right hand waves and in addition, both left and right reef breaks add variety. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Rarely crowded here. Watch out for rips, rocks, seals.
