Matanzas in Santiago is an exposed reef break that has very consistent surf. Winter is the favoured time of year for surfing here. Offshore winds are from the east. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. There is a left hand reef break. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Beware of rocks and rips.
