Hulihee Palace in Big Island is an exposed reef break that is usually a safe bet. Summer offers the best conditions for surfing. Works best in offshore winds from the east. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the south southwest. A left hand reef break. Best around high tide.
