Barra Velha in Santa Caterina is an exposed beach and point break that has quite reliable surf. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. Offshore winds are from the west. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the east. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights and there is a left hand point break too. Good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water.
